What to Do After a Hailstorm in Arkansas

A hailstorm can leave a roof looking fine from the driveway while damaging shingles, flashing, vents, or gutters. It can also leave marks that look alarming but have no effect on the roof. Start with safety and documentation, then have a qualified roofer look at the areas you cannot safely see.

If water is coming inside, move valuables out of the way, catch the water, and arrange temporary protection. Do not climb onto a wet or steep roof or put yourself near downed power lines.

Document what happened

Write down the storm date and photograph the outside of the home from the ground. Capture fallen branches, damaged siding or screens, dents to metal vents or gutters, and any water stains indoors. Save the photos even if you are unsure whether they show roof damage.

Do not assume every dark spot on a shingle is a hail impact. Granule loss, wear, foot traffic, and manufacturing texture can look similar in a quick photo. A close inspection should consider the full roof system, including penetrations and the attic when appropriate.

Get an inspection and understand the findings

Ask the contractor to show you clear photos, identify affected slopes and components, and explain why any proposed work is needed. A useful assessment distinguishes damage that needs prompt repair from normal aging or cosmetic marks.

If you intend to contact your insurer, review your policy and deductible and ask your insurer how its claim process works. The insurer decides coverage under your policy; a roofer can document physical conditions and explain the proposed scope of work. Avoid anyone who promises a guaranteed approval or pressures you to sign before you understand the agreement.

Make a sensible plan

A storm does not automatically mean the entire roof needs replacement. Depending on the condition and extent of damage, a repair, temporary protection, or a full replacement may be appropriate. Ask what materials will be used, how exposed areas will be protected, how cleanup works, and who will answer questions during the job.

Skyward Roofing can inspect your roof, share photos of what we find, and discuss the next step with you. Visit our residential roofing page or call the Sky Guys at 501-472-3902 to request an inspection.
